Early Edition 2

Picture
Early Edition 2 by Glasshouse Apps is the second iteration of this app, following the initial release of Early Edition One. Known for its classic newspaper style layout, the latest version introduced a brand new, redesigned interface that capitalizes on swiping gestures to quickly access controls. Apple abruptly abandoned skeuomorphism, but Early Edition 2 distinguishes itself from other newsreaders with virtual scrolling news rolls to refresh articles and intern memo envelopes that animate to send out shared articles. The app also includes virtual drawers or cardboard boxes to store saved articles in Readability. This app is arguably the most innovative of all news readers.

Linkedin Pulse by LinkedIn

Picture
Pulse made its appearance in the news reader market in December 2011. Since then, it has been one of the leading news apps for the iPad and more recently the iPhone. Pulse introduced a scrolling tile interface that enables you to navigate articles vertically and horizontally, including the ability to save articles to your own personal library to read later. In the spring of 2013, Pulse was acquired by Linkedin, but, for the most part, maintaining the same features and tile interface, but simplifying the layout for a cleaner and more seamless experience. Of course, LinkedIn, along with Twitter and Facebook is a primary source for sharing articles. Microsoft purchased LinkedIn so the app is no longer supported on iOS.
